Italian Way Charity Gala Dinner 2017 held in Beijing

The Italian Way Charity Gala Dinner 2017 was held at Renaissance Beijing Wangfujing Hotel on Nov. 24th, 2017. Through this Gala Dinner, the organizers, Federation of Italian Chefs China Delegation (F.I.C China), Marriott International Inc. at North China and Renaissance Beijing Wangfujing Hotel, brought together 348 guests, who not only had a better understanding of Italian delicacies and culture, but also succeeded in challenging a Guinness World Record: The Largest Pasta Tasting Event. In addition, guests also participated in a charity auction for the left-behind children of Yi minority group cooperated with Paimai.jd.com and JD Foundation. This ongoing online auction invites everyone to join in.

In his address, Chef Massimiliano Esposito, the initiator of Italian Way Charity Gala Dinner 2017, and the President of F.I.C China, briefed the guests on the purposes of this Charity Gala. He extended sincere gratitude to partners and supporters of this event, while expressing his hope that more similar events can be held to strengthen the exchanges on catering and culinary culture between China and Italy.

Mr. Michael Lunn, General Manager of Renaissance Beijing Wangfujing Hotel, warmly welcomed all the guests. Apart from the glamour of classic Italian delicacies, he also wished that, with full preparation of the hotel staff and best facilities and service, the guests enjoyed a wonderful evening during the dinner.

On behalf of the Marriott International, Mr. Sebastiaan Kleinsman, Area Director of Operations, North China, pointed out that many Marriott hotels and restaurants were part of this event in an attempt to impress the public with diverse campaigns. Among them, the ongoing Italian Way Italian Bus Tour (Nov. 20th – Nov. 26th, 2017) is rather well received. Like the other two speakers, he also thanked all the partners and the chef team for their hard effort.

Food culture was highlighted in the address of Mr. Giovanni Brignone, Councilor, Embassy of Italy to the People’s Republic of China. He considered this as an indispensable component of a nation. It provides an immense platform for Sino-Italian exchanges, bringing the two countries closer to each other. During the one-week campaign, Extraordinary Italian Taste, an event promoting Italian catering culture, all parties involved attached great importance to this Italian Way Food & Cultural Festival 2017.

Dr. Danilo Moscovini, Deputy Director of Italian Trade Commission, was glad to witness such cultural interactions between the two countries facilitated by food. He expected long term cooperation and communication, and common progress between the two sides.

Also presented at the Charity Gala Dinner was Mr. Li Yilun, a gourmet and the founder of Funye. During the event, he prepared the seafood spaghetti with a unique flavor by adding a kind of spicy sauce under his own brand, Funye, perfectly combining Chinese and western cooking styles. He was also awarded Promotion Ambassador of Italian Food by Mr. Giovanni. In recent years, Mr. Lin achieved greater popularity with his passion for food, and strict standard on its quality.

In his speech, Mr. He Chao, General Manager of Home Furnishing Department, JD Home and life, said that many business divisions of JD, including kitchenware, flowers, consumer goods, Paimai.JD.com, and JD Foundation, were all part of this event, and promoted it together at JD.com. In the future, he hoped that there will be various and deeper cooperation so as to strengthen Sino-Italian communication, and jointly promote Italian cuisine. Meanwhile, JD would strive to bring to domestic customers quality Italian products with richer varieties, and advanced global concepts on consumption.

The organizers also paid their special thanks to Mr. Alex Zhang, Managing Director of Carote, and Mr. Gunes Karababa, General Manager at Barilla China, for their strong support for this event.

Guests of this Charity Gala Dinner also included F.I.C China chef delegation, industrial leaders, and 50 mainstream media and industrial media home and abroad.

An important session during the dinner was to invite all the guests present to a challenge of a new Guinness World Record: The Largest Pasta Tasting Event. The demonstration cooking was done by Mr. Lin Yilun, Chef Massimiliano, and Chef Antonio from Marriott International, who cooked pastas of three different flavors on the stage, while the chef team of F.I.C China cooked the same pastas for 348 guests in the kitchen. At last, after on-site inspection, Ms. Britanny Dunn, the adjudicator of Guinness World Record, announced that the guests successfully created a new Guinness World Record!

As a token of love, a charity auction was also organized during the Charity Gala Dinner. Cooperated with Paimai.JD.com, all the fund raised will be donated to JD Foundation project — Warm the Heart of the Left-Behind Children of Yi Minority Group. From Nov. 22nd to Nov. 28th, all the participants are invited to win the auctions with a higher bid. This cooperation with Paimai.JD.com and JD Foundation spreads further the spirit of love and charity.
